Our heritage

The Joinery Workshop was founded in 2010 by Robert Bacon and David Roberts, both incredibly knowledgeable in their individual fields within the construction industry. After years of working closely together, they decided to combine their knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for quality craftsmanship to provide North Norfolk with a new joinery. We continue their lineage today with our ever-growing team of skilled joiners and sprayers, gaining a solid reputation with homeowners, businesses, and architects across Norfolk.

The current director, Katie, who has been working in the business since the very beginning, purchased The Joinery Workshop in 2016 from her father, Robert. Katie carries the same love of beautiful craftsmanship and quality service as her dad. In 2020, Katie’s husband Aaron, who is a builder by trade, joined the team, giving us the opportunity to develop the business further to offer an installation service to our customers.

In 2023, we had the opportunity to take on a new venture. Following the retirement of Barry Cullum of Cullum & Clarke Joinery, we merged his joinery into The Joinery Workshop North Norfolk. This was an exciting opportunity to combine our Cromer team with the fabulous joinery team at Attlebridge, including Guy Cullum, Barry’s Son, who is very much still a part of the team.

Our purpose is to create beautiful joinery that elevates your home, and we embrace every project, no matter the challenge, with open arms and tools at the ready across both of our workshop locations.

Woodworking

What is joinery?

Joinery is a type of woodworking in which wood is joined together to create something, such as windows, doors, gates, entrance frames, staircases, mouldings, and more. It’s a long-standing craft, practised for centuries across the world. Work by experienced joiners lasts far beyond mass-manufactured products and boasts the unique finish only tailored joinery possesses.

Time-honoured techniques

Using modern equipment to cut our timber, we then join and finish it by hand. We use traditional mortise and tenon joints along with modern joining techniques created by our CNC machines to produce quality, seamless results that boast craftsmanship and care.

Come and see our work for yourself

We’re proud to offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, so we encourage our clients to visit our Cromer or Attlebridge workshops. We will give you the tour and introduce you to the team behind the creation of your bespoke joinery, inviting you to see the process from the very beginning. While joinery is our passion, personable and transparent customer service is just as rewarding for us; you will always be well looked after throughout your Joinery Workshop journey.

House

Adaptable joinery for every kind of property

From bespoke staircases to beautiful custom wooden gates, we’re passionate about joinery and helping you achieve your dream aesthetic. We create a wide range of joinery, including bespoke windows, doors, and even shop fronts, all from our workshops using quality materials. For listed homes or conservation areas, we can adapt our profiles to replicate the existing joinery, leaving seamless results that honour the original build.

Meet The Team

Prior to joining The Joinery Workshop, Katie worked as a Building Surveyor in Building Control. This was a great start to her career in construction as she was immersed in many different trades while liaising with homeowners, architects, and builders. Katie always aims to be the first point of contact when you call the workshop, offering a friendly voice on the other side of the phone. She loves meeting new customers and explaining what the team can achieve, and it’s important to her that customers feel comfortable and valued from the very start. It hasn’t always been an easy ride, but Katie is proud of where she and the Joinery team are today. She says that without the team, the business wouldn’t be what it is, and she is incredibly grateful.

Katie Carter

Director

An incredibly valuable member of the team, David’s wealth of knowledge within the industry is indispensable. David worked as a joiner for many years, setting up North Norfolk Joinery in 1988, ironically in the same location that The Joinery Workshop North Norfolk would come to be in 2010. David now works remotely from his home in Dorset, but he is still one of the first voices you’ll hear when starting your Joinery Workshop journey. He oversees projects from afar, from the quotation stage to getting your project into the workshop. David’s skills and experience in joinery and woodwork are invaluable, and his know-how is part of what makes this business the force it is.

David Roberts

Manager

Matt has been in the joinery trade since leaving school. Having served his apprenticeship with Bullen Joinery, Matt has many years of experience under his belt, making him brilliant at what he does. Matthew will visit you on-site at your home or property, carrying out site measurements and assessing the job ahead. For those using our Cromer workshop, he will be one of your main points of contact alongside David, ensuring that our team manufactures the perfect joinery for you.

Matt Barrell

Manager/Surveyor

Guy helped run his family joinery business, Cullum and Clarke Joinery, from the moment he left school. This company was a powerhouse of joinery expertise and one of the longest-standing joinery workshops in the region, producing some of the best staircases you’ve ever seen. He may be young, but Guy is incredibly talented and comes with a breadth of knowledge that bolsters our expertise tenfold. Guy carries out quoting and on-site measuring, and will be one of your main points of contact when working with the Attlebridge workshop.

Guy Cullum

Estimator/Surveyor

A bricklayer by trade, Aaron heads up the fitting and installation side of the Joinery Workshop. Working in the construction industry for 16 years, he is knowledgeable, experienced, and great at what he does. Aaron is known for being approachable and friendly, always receiving exceptional feedback on his fittings and his skills working on older properties. Without Aaron, we wouldn’t be able to deliver our incredible products and services to you.
